Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills, Lowe’s, and the Hockaday Family are partnering with hundreds of women from Moore County and will be building onsite for
National Women Build Week

May 10th through May 12th
8:00 am till 3:00 pm

The 2018 Women Build house, 857 W. Iowa Ave in Southern Pines, has had a spectacular turn out of volunteers during the last few weeks. The foundation is down, the walls are up, and this weekend we will be building with Lowes Home Improvement Center in honor of National Women Build Week. Volunteers from Keller Williams Pinehurst, Pinehurst Jazzercise, Wells Fargo, and the Junior League of Moore County will take part in a three day celebration of the power of women while raising awareness of the needs of women in Moore County. We look forward to our finale on Saturday with Southern Pines Mayor David McNeil and hope you can join us to build the energy and encourage the volunteers. The Women Build committee is empowering women to go beyond their comfort zone and realize the powerful energy created when women work together.

2018 Women Build

We are thrilled to have so many of you interested in this unique build to celebrate the empowerment of women.
Our effort will not only create a home for a special family, but it will serve as a reminder of what women can accomplish together.

The 2018 Women Build committee started with a mission last summer, raising not only donations but awareness of the needs of women in our community. Women Build is about empowering women to go beyond what they “think” are their capabilities and realizing the power of women working together. When women come together great things happen and that is exactly what happened on Thursday, March 15th at the CCNC. The Hard Hats and Heels Fashion show was an enormous success thanks to the Chairwomen Sally Brown, the Women Build Committee, and the boutiques, models, and vendors that made it all possible. Fabulous outfits and accessories from Cool Sweats, Eve Avery, Marie & Marcele, Cooper & Bailey, Morgan Miller, R. Riveter, Monkees, Pink of the Pines, J. McLaughlin, Kataphora, and The Clothes Horse where on display for a sold out crowd of over 200 women from the Sandhills community.

Habitat for Humanity 2018 Women Build is focused on helping Alicia and Linwood to realize the dream of home ownership. They are raising their two young grandchildren and live in a cramped apartment where the electricity bill alone exceeds $300.00 a month. With their new energy efficient home, their mortgage and utilities will be a fraction of their current housing expense. This will allow them to build financial security for their family and invest in a future for their grandchildren. Alicia has worked at First Health Moore Regional Hospital for over 30 years, and this steady income will ensure the mortgage payment which in turn provides the income for Habitat to continue to build affordable housing. In addition to the 300 hours of sweat equity each, they will put in into the project, they attend classes that create strong homeowner skills. Their home will be located in West Southern Pines and construction will start in April 2018. Join us for "walls up" on April 28th.

We congratulate the Women Build committee and the community successful evening which raised over 19,000 for the Hockaday home. Currently, the committee has raised over $25,000 of their $100,000 goal. Creating awareness at the Fashion Show is only the first step, Habitat needs donations of time, talent, and treasures. Build days are scheduled throughout the Spring and Summer. Check out and search for Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills to start your team of Wonder Women and help raise the funds to complete the home buy asking family and friends to support you!
