January 2012

Dear Friend of Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills:

As Chairman of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills, Inc., I’m writing to ask for your support as we deliver our mission to people in need in Moore and Richmond counties.

Becoming a homeowner through Habitat for Humanity is life-changing. Nearly 200 families are living in safe, comfortable and secure Habitat homes as first-time homeowners. Habitat families have been shown to lead healthier, more productive lives and are able to focus on lifelong dreams such as furthering education and gaining better employment.
I would like to tell you of one of our Habitat homeowners, Dorothy Jones. Dorothy has lived in her Habitat home since 1999 and shared with us just a small sampling of her feeling for her home:

“The pride of homeownership is important to me. My house is where all family gatherings are held. We celebrated my son’s graduation from high school in 2004 and from college in 2009. My house is the family house. Everyone likes to stay here for holidays because it is so warm and inviting, that’s what makes it a home.”

Dorothy can remember her car being shot when she lived in an apartment building where others had no respect for their neighbors. Worried about her son growing up in this environment, she applied to become a Habitat homeowner. With hard work and dedication, she completed sweat equity requirements and ultimately purchased an affordable Habitat home.
Dorothy has worked for the Pinehurst resort for 22 years and is proud of having made each house payment on time. “With the economy and hours being cut, I have the blessing of my affordable house payment. Even someone on minimum wage could make payments for their own house. I know people donate all around the world, but when they give close to home it affects the whole community. You uplift your community, and build good neighborhoods when you have the pride of homeownership.”

We know times are tough right now for many of us. As you may suspect, the working poor often struggle to keep a roof over their children’s heads and food on the table. Too many children with hard-working parents live in crowded, unsafe homes, with no hope of ever having a home of their own. You can help. Your donation will help us form a partnership with our neighbors in need and build an affordable home for a qualified family.
We don’t just build houses. Together we build homes, families and future generations. We hope you will consider stretching to give more than you may have in the past, as our need is great. On behalf of the organization, I can tell you we would be extremely grateful for any gift that you might make to help us reach our goal so that we may continue to provide simple decent homes for God’s people in need.

In Christian Partnership,

Robert M. Friesen, Board President
